CANACONA: Marking a new chapter in rural development, Minister for Tribal Welfare, Sports & Youth Affairs, and Art & Culture Ramesh Tawadkar on Friday inaugurated the newly constructed road at Avali (Khotigao), fulfilling a long-pending demand of residents living within the Wildlife Sanctuary.
Addressing the gathering, Tawadkar announced plans to develop the temples in the Avali Hills area into a pilgrimage centre, saying it would boost cultural heritage, tourism, and local employment opportunities.
“The road issue had remained unresolved for several years, and today we have fulfilled the aspirations of the people,” Tawadkar said. “This is not just a road—it represents the spirit of development and the government’s commitment to uplift the poor and marginalized.”
He added that the Bharatiya Janata Party government continues to prioritize grassroots progress. “Now that the road work is completed, our next mission is to develop the Avali temples into a recognized pilgrimage circuit. Alongside, we aim to resolve the local water supply issue within a year and transform Khotigao Panchayat into a model region equipped with all basic amenities,” he stated.
Tawadkar emphasized that development goes beyond infrastructure. “True development means improving people’s quality of life and addressing their everyday needs. This road is a symbol of people’s perseverance and a step toward a brighter future,” he said.
The newly completed road has brought major relief to residents who faced years of hardship due to poor connectivity, especially students, senior citizens, and commuters during the monsoon. It is expected to boost transportation, rural tourism, and economic activity in the region.
Khotigao Sarpanch Vrunda Velip, former sarpanch and panch Anandu Desai, and panch Krishna Gaonkar also addressed the gathering.
