CALANGUTE: In a move to ensure smoother traffic and enhanced safety during the peak tourist season, the District Magistrate of North Goa has announced a temporary ban on the movement of heavy vehicles in several key areas.
This ban will be effective from December 25, 2024, to January 5, 2025.
The affected routes include the stretch from Dolphin Circle to Acacia Hotel at Sinquerim, as well as the roads from Dolphin Circle to Bandodkar Statue via Calangute Post Office, KFC Junction, Shantadurga Temple, and Baga Circle junction. Additionally, the roads from St. Anthony Chapel to KFC Junction, Baga Circle to Baga End, and the internal road at Tito’s Lane from Bharat Junction to Club Mamboos in Baga will also be restricted to heavy vehicles.
This decision, made under the provisions of Sections 115 and 116 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, aims to alleviate traffic congestion and improve road safety in the highly tourist-populated areas of Calangute in Bardez Taluka. The ban is part of a broader effort to manage the increased traffic volume expected during the holiday season.
This measure is anticipated to provide a more pleasant and safe experience for both locals and tourists visiting the region during the festive period.
