PANAJI: Ten persons, including six foreign nationals from Russia and Kazakhstan, were rescued from drowning off Goa’s coastline by Drishti Marine lifesavers over the last weekend. The lifesavers also reunited two missing children with their families, administered first aid to two individuals and also intervened to thwart an attempted robbery.
Ashwem/Calangute: On the Ashwem beach, a Russian mother-daughter duo aged 68 and 38, respectively, found themselves caught in a rip current as they were swimming seawards. On spotting them signalling for help, lifesavers Harsh Kambli with a rescue tube and Tanaji Bhagat with a jetski brought them safely to the shore. At Calangute beach, two men aged 23 and 28 from Bengaluru got dragged into a lateral rip current. Lifesavers on duty, Kartik Naik and Rakesh Kumar rescued the two men, who were struggling to stay afloat.
Baga: In yet another incident that involved Kazakhstan tourists, two women aged 22 and 37 were rescued by lifesavers Rohan Ghadi and Laxman Usapkar with the help of a rescue board and rescue tube. Candolim: Two natives from Kolkata, a 32-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man, were rescued by lifesavers Sandesh Malkar and Saiful Bindiya with the help of a rescue board and rescue tube. Off the same beach, a 60-year-old man from Russia was rescued from drowning by lifesavers Jaiprakash Chakraborty and Sanjay Yadav.
Arambol: A 63-year-old woman from Russia found herself caught in a rip current 50 meters away from the shore. After seeing her signalling for help, lifesavers Menoh Parab rushed into the water to save her while Captain Nagesh Sarang went in with a jetski to bring them to the shore. At the popular sweet water lake adjacent to the same beach, while a US national and a French woman were swimming, two men tried to run away with their belongings. Captain Vikram Talkar from Drishti Marine, who was on his rounds nearby, intervened and managed to nab the two alleged culprits and handed them over to the police for further enquiries.
Baina: A four-year-old boy stranded on his own and crying was handed over to Drishti Marine personnel at the local lifesaver tower by beachgoers. The lifesavers made a series of announcements on the beach, before locating the family of the missing child, who was then handed over to his parents after formally confirming their identity.
Palolem/Dudhsagar: At Palolem, a 21-year-old man from Maharashtra was given first aid by on-duty lifesavers for sustaining a deep cut after he fell into a rocky area. At Dudhsagar waterfalls, another 21-year-old man from Haryana sustained a deep cut after falling into the rocky area and had to be administered first aid by on-duty Drishti Marine lifesavers.
