SAO JOSE DE AREAL: A tense atmosphere prevailed in parts of Margao after a group of minor boys were reportedly assaulted near the Gudi canal on Tuesday.
Sources said the boys, all residents of Sao Jose de Areal, had gone to the canal for a swim after celebrating Holi when they were allegedly confronted by a group of around ten youths from Margao.
The minors claimed they were attacked with sticks and sharp weapons during the confrontation.
The incident triggered panic after the injured boys returned to their locality and narrated the episode to residents.
In response, locals from the area reportedly pursued the suspected assailants and managed to detain three persons near the Aquem Power House before handing them over to the police.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
