SANGUEM: Tension prevailed at Mirabag on Monday after local residents assembled at the project site and brought ongoing work on the proposed bandhara project to a halt.
A significant deployment of police personnel was made in the area to prevent any untoward incident and to maintain law and order.
Opposition to the proposed 50 MLD bandhara project has intensified over the past few days, particularly after work on the project resumed. Villagers from Falnem, Mugoli, Soliem, Pontemol, Dhadem and Madel joined the protest, expressing strong objections to the project and demanding that construction activities be stopped.
Protesters raised concerns over the potential impact of the bandhara on water resources, agriculture and the local environment, stating that their objections had not been adequately addressed by the authorities. They alleged that work was restarted without taking local stakeholders into confidence.
Police officials remained present at the site throughout the protest to ensure the situation did not escalate.
While the gathering remained largely peaceful, work at the project site was suspended as a precautionary measure.
