New Delhi: India delivered a strong rebuttal to Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council, accusing it of spreading misinformation and attempting to justify terrorism while violating its international obligations. Addressing the Council, India said Pakistan’s interventions were driven by a single objective of undermining India and misleading the global community.
India firmly rejected Pakistan’s account of last year’s military developments, describing it as false and self serving. It reiterated that the trigger for India’s actions was the April 2025 terror attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, in which 26 civilians were killed by Pakistan sponsored terrorists. The Security Council itself had called for accountability of those responsible, including organisers, financiers and sponsors, and India stated that its actions were aimed precisely at fulfilling that mandate.
India emphasised that its military response was limited, precise and non escalatory, focused solely on dismantling terrorist infrastructure and neutralising active threats. It added that Pakistan continued to issue threats of further attacks until early May, following which the Pakistani military sought a halt to hostilities. India also pointed to publicly available evidence showing damage to multiple Pakistani air bases, including destroyed runways and hangars, as proof of the effectiveness of its operations.
Responding to Pakistan’s remarks about establishing a “new normal”, India asserted that terrorism can never be treated as acceptable conduct. It said the Security Council must not allow itself to become a platform for legitimising terrorism or state sponsorship of violent extremism. India made clear that it would take all necessary steps to protect the safety and security of its citizens.
On Jammu and Kashmir, India stated that Pakistan had no standing to comment on matters internal to India, reaffirming that the Union Territory has always been and will remain an integral part of the country. Addressing the Indus Waters Treaty, India said it had honoured the agreement in good faith for decades despite repeated wars and thousands of terror attacks, leading to immense loss of life. It said the treaty had been placed in abeyance until Pakistan ends its support for cross border terrorism in a credible and irreversible manner.
India also urged Pakistan to examine its own governance and rule of law, particularly the concentration of power within its military establishment. Concluding its statement, India called for stronger international legal frameworks and reforms of multilateral institutions, stressing that such changes are essential for the UN to effectively uphold global peace and security.
