Shashi Tharoor has slammed Donald Trump’s 50 per cent tariff on Indian goods, urging India to retaliate with equal tariffs on American exports.
New Delhi: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has condemned US President Donald Trump’s decision to impose a 50% tariff on Indian goods, calling it unfair and threatening. “No country can threaten us like this,” he said, urging India to retaliate with similar tariffs on American exports.
Tharoor warned the hike would hurt India’s $90 billion trade with the US, making Indian goods unaffordable for American buyers. He also criticised the US for giving China a 90-day break despite its higher imports of Russian oil, calling it a double standard.
“This is not a friendly gesture,” he said, adding that India must now consider reciprocal tariffs and strengthen trade ties with other countries.
