New Delhi: French President Emmanuel Macron has lauded India’s expanding role in global innovation, highlighting that several leading multinational corporations are headed by Indian origin executives. Referring to companies such as Chanel, Alphabet Inc. and Adobe, Macron said India is no longer merely contributing to global technological progress but actively shaping it.
Speaking at the India France Innovation Forum in Mumbai, the French President said the central question today is not whether India innovates, but who will partner with it in driving future breakthroughs. He described France as a committed collaborator and emphasised that the partnership is built on conviction and shared ambition.
The remarks coincided with India and France upgrading their bilateral relationship to a Special Global Strategic Partnership, signalling expanded cooperation across technology, defence, space and innovation sectors.
Macron underlined the depth of defence collaboration between the two countries, noting joint efforts in developing advanced military platforms, including next generation engines, multi role helicopters, combat aircraft and submarines. He described the relationship as a sovereign alliance between two major nations choosing to work together across land, sea and air domains.
Beyond defence, he pointed to strong cooperation in space and civil nuclear energy. The TRISHNA satellite mission was cited as an example of scientific collaboration that reflects the technical expertise of both countries.
Macron also announced plans to organise an Innovation Day ahead of the upcoming G7 Summit, bringing together students, researchers and innovators from both nations to foster deeper engagement.
Stressing that technological advancement must benefit society, he said innovation should not only focus on cutting edge discoveries but also improve daily life by making it healthier, safer and more sustainable.
