Panaji: Thirty promising students from Goa have been selected as Goa Scholars under the Manohar Parrikar Goa Scholar Scheme 2018 for the academic year 2024–25. The flagship State government scheme, conceptualised by late Manohar G. Parrikar, former Chief Minister of Goa, is being implemented through the Directorate of Higher Education to support meritorious students pursuing post-graduate and doctoral studies in India and abroad.
A total of 185 students applied for the scheme this year. Eligible candidates were shortlisted by a Scrutiny Committee and subsequently interviewed by a high-level Selection Committee comprising reputed senior academicians, industry experts and administrators. Following the selection process, 30 candidates were chosen as Goa Scholars for the academic year 2024–25.
The selected scholars represent a wide range of disciplines, reflecting the scheme’s inclusive academic vision. The fields include Human Computer Interaction, Automation Control, Robotics and Computer Vision, Aerospace, Interior Design, Management, Information Security, Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, Physics, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Paediatric Oncology, Architecture, Medicinal and Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Radio-diagnosis, Medicine, Dental Surgery and Human Genetics, among others.
The Manohar Parrikar Goa Scholar Scheme aims to identify, encourage and financially support outstanding young talent from Goa, enabling them to pursue advanced studies at reputed universities and higher education institutions worldwide. The list of selected Goa Scholars along with their respective courses and universities of study has been released by the Directorate of Higher Education.
