New Delhi: Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has strongly condemned the views expressed in a circulating video of Delhi blast accused Umar un Nabi, in which he attempts to portray suicide bombing as a form of martyrdom. Responding to the clip, Owaisi stressed that such interpretations have no basis in Islamic teachings and labelled the act as an unequivocal crime.
In a post reacting to the video, Owaisi stated that suicide is forbidden in Islam and that harming innocent people is a serious violation of religious principles as well as the law. He emphasised that attempts to justify such violence cannot be dismissed as misunderstanding, describing the act as terrorism without ambiguity. He also questioned the government over the emergence of the terror module connected to the blast and a recent large-scale explosives recovery, raising concerns about intelligence gaps.
The undated video shows Umar, a doctor by profession, discussing suicide bombing as what he calls a “martyrdom operation”. His articulation and fluent presentation have drawn attention to an emerging pattern of radicalisation among highly educated individuals. Investigators have identified him as part of a new module comprising professionals, including medical practitioners.
The deadly blast took place on November 10, when a car Umar was driving exploded near the Red Fort Metro station, resulting in 13 deaths and injuries to 20 others. Subsequent inquiries linked him to a major explosives haul in Faridabad, further exposing the network he was associated with.
Voices from within the Muslim community have firmly countered his claims. Nasir Khuehami of the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association reiterated that suicide bombing has no legitimacy in Islam. He noted that the act involves both taking one’s own life and harming others, making it an even greater violation. He added that Islamic teachings strictly prohibit targeting civilians under any circumstance.
The release of the video and the surrounding debate have reinforced growing concerns about radical propaganda and the misuse of religious concepts to justify violence, prompting renewed calls for vigilance and community-led counter-narratives.
