MAJORDA: A man died after being gored by a bull during an illegal bullfight (dhirio) organized in the open fields of Ultima Parte, Majorda, on Monday morning. Police have arrested three persons in connection with the case.
According to Colva Police, despite the ban on bullfights, the accused — Santano Cardozo of Curtorim, Joaquim Pereira of Majorda, Raymond (presently in America), Ravi (presently in America), and Rui Menezes of Curtorim — allegedly organized a bullfight between two bulls named Godfather and Chando for public entertainment between 10.30 am and 11.30 am on September 22.
During the fight, the bull Chando turned aggressive and charged at spectators, goring Rajesh Nagush Nistani of Guirdolim. The victim sustained grievous injuries and succumbed while undergoing treatment at South Goa District Hospital, Margao.
An inquest and post-mortem examination were conducted, with the medical officer certifying the cause of death as lung damage due to a penetrating chest injury caused by the bull’s horn. The body was later handed over to the family for final rites.
Police have arrested Santano Cardozo, Joaquim Pereira, and Jose Cardozo in the case, while further investigation is underway under PSI Prashant Bhagat of Colva Police Station.
