Three Arrested in Bastora Assault Case; More Arrests Expected

MAPUSA: Mapusa police have arrested three men—Ranganath Shetye (55), Vinod Shetkari (47), and Kaushal Shetye (32), all residents of Moira, Bardez—in connection with the assault of Vivek Shirodkar and his pregnant wife, Shruti Shirodkar, at Bastora junction.

The accused have been taken into custody as the investigation continues, with police indicating that more arrests are likely in the case.

Authorities have assured strict action as the probe progresses.

A Nachinola couple, Vivek Shirodkar and his three-month pregnant wife, Shruti Shirodkar, who operate a Shawarma van, were brutally attacked by a group of approximately 25 unidentified individuals at Bastora junction around 8:00 PM last night.

The shocking assault, reportedly stemming from a minor parking argument earlier in the day, left both husband and wife with serious injuries.

According to the complaint filed by the couple, the initial dispute involved a parking issue, during which the large group allegedly threatened Vivek.

In the evening, as the Shirodkars were opening their food van, the same group arrived, armed with a variety of weapons including iron rods, wooden sticks, choppers, and knives.

The attackers reportedly dragged Vivek out of the van and proceeded to assault both him and his pregnant wife. Both sustained significant injuries in the unprovoked attack.

Following the assault, the couple immediately proceeded to the Mapusa Police Station to file a formal complaint. They were subsequently moved to Asilo Hospital for medical examination and treatment of their injuries.

Mapusa Police have registered a case and investigations into the incident are currently underway. The identities of the around 25 attackers remain unknown at this time.
