VASCO: Vasco police have registered a case against three individuals, including two employees of HDFC Bank, for allegedly cheating a Baina resident of gold ornaments valued at ₹8.78 lakh under the pretext of offering a loan at a lower interest rate.
As per the complaint filed by Khwaja Hussain, a resident of Baina, the incident took place on June 20, 2025, at Shantinagar. The accused have been identified as Safhan Khan, a resident of Dabolim; Shazia Sayed, an employee of HDFC Bank; and Sunil Chavan, manager of the same bank. According to the complaint, all three acted with a common intention to deceive.
Hussain stated that he had taken back gold ornaments from Muthoot Finance by paying ₹8,78,600, following which the accused allegedly convinced him to pledge the same ornaments with HDFC Bank, promising a loan at a reduced interest rate. The complainant handed over the ornaments to Safhan Khan, believing they would be re-pledged. However, the accused failed to produce the ornaments at the bank and allegedly misappropriated them for personal gain.
Police have registered an offence under Sections 318(4), 316(2) read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
The case is currently being investigated by PSI Mayur Sawant of Vasco Police Station under the supervision of PI Vaibhav Naik and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam. Further inquiries are underway.
