VALPOI: Valpoi Police have booked three persons for illegally transporting meat without valid documents, seizing around 300 kg of suspected red meat worth approximately Rs 1.2 lakh at the Keri checkpost in Sattari.
According to police, the offence was registered on March 18, 2026, at 5:48 pm based on a complaint lodged by Police Constable Ankush Krishna Gaonkar of Valpoi Police Station. The incident occurred earlier in the day at around 4:30 pm at the BCP Keri checkpost.
The main accused, Ahamed Pathan (47), a resident of Ramapur, Khanapur taluka in Belagavi, Karnataka, was caught red-handed while transporting the meat in a white Tata Indigo car bearing registration number GA-05-B-2630. Police said the meat was being transported without any bill or authority letter from the competent authority.
Pathan was arrested at 5:45 pm on the same day.
Subsequently, two more accused—Vishwas Tukaram Naik (59), a resident of Vagurme, Marcel-Ponda, and Mohamad Arif Bepari (20), a resident of Pansulem, Dharbandora—were also arrested at 11:18 pm. Both were later released on bail in the early hours of March 19 at 1:43 am.
Police have seized the meat consignment and are investigating its source and intended destination.
