BICHOLIM: In a major breakthrough, Bicholim Police have arrested three persons from Karnataka in connection with a hit-and-run accident that left two youths grievously injured at Sarvan, Bicholim, on October 18, 2025.
The accident occurred at around 11:30 p.m. near the MRF Tyre shop at Sarvan when a silver Toyota Innova, bearing Maharashtra registration number MH 05 BL 1860, hit a motorcycle heading from Bicholim towards Sanquelim. The riders — Sanmesh Salunke (21) and Satish Jagdar (29), both residents of Vathadev, Bicholim — sustained grievous injuries and were rushed to CHC Bicholim by a 108 ambulance. The car, however, sped away without stopping to help or informing the police.
Following the incident, Bicholim Police registered Cr. No. 142/2025 under Sections 281 and 125(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 134(a) and 134(b) of the Motor Vehicles Act.
An extensive probe led by PI Vijay Rane Sardesai, along with PSIs Jayprakash Jankar and Rashmir Parab Matonkar, HC Nilesh Foguersri, and PC Sandeep Pawale, involved scrutiny of CCTV footage along the route. Using Panaji Smart City cameras, the team traced the vehicle near the Old Secretariat, Panaji, and identified the registration number as MH 05 BL 1860.
Enquiry revealed that the car was originally owned by Shashank Tulaskar of Ubadanda, Vengurla, Maharashtra, who had sold it to Santosh Hublikar of Ramgadh, Vengurla. Hublikar informed police that the car was being used by his brother-in-law’s son, Suraj Patri of Beedi, Belagavi, Karnataka.
A second police team comprising PSI Jayprakash Jankar, PSI Akash Parwar, HC Umesh Naik, and PC Vishal Parab was dispatched to Belagavi, where they successfully traced the vehicle and detained Suraj Patri, along with two others — Prakash Sambhoji and Allamaprabhu Gundappnavar, both from Beedi, Belagavi.
Police stated that the two accomplices abetted the crime by continuing their journey after the collision and failing to render medical aid or inform authorities.
All three accused have been brought to Bicholim Police Station and placed under arrest. Further investigation into the case is underway.
