According to police, the case was registered on March 18, 2026, at 6:58 pm following a complaint filed by Vinod Nagesh Sawant, a resident of Hasapur, Pernem. The incident reportedly took place earlier the same day at around 2:50 am near Amar Crusher Plant at Casarvarnem.

Police said the trio, acting with common intention, transported 14 cattle in a goods vehicle (Tata Motors, medium goods permit) bearing registration number KA-22-AA-4747. The animals were allegedly confined in extremely unhygienic conditions without adequate food, fodder or water, amounting to cruelty.
