Mapusa: In a significant development in the Cunchelim Communidade land scam, Mapusa Police have arrested three more suspects — Raja Anthony, Raju Mandrekar, and Sumit Phadte — for their alleged role in fraudulently selling Communidade land to over 140 unsuspecting families.
The trio was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Mapusa, on Monday and has been remanded to two days of police custody for further interrogation.
According to police sources, the accused were part of a larger syndicate involved in the illegal sale and transfer of Communidade land parcels, with several forged documents and bogus registrations being used in the process.
With these arrests, the total number of accused nabbed in the scam has increased, as investigations continue to trace others involved and recover documents related to the fraudulent transactions.
Police have urged affected families to come forward with any information that could aid the probe.
