Panaji: An American woman was among three tourists, including two domestic woman travellers, who were bitten by stray dogs on Benaulim beach in South Goa over the last week, even as a triple rescue was carried out off Candolim beach in North Goa by Drishti Marine lifesavers over the weekend.
Last week, a 56-year-old woman tourist from the United States of America was bitten by a stray dog while she was strolling on Benaulim beach and was administered first aid by vigilant lifesavers at the lifesaver tower. The victim opted to go to the hospital via private vehicle.
Over the last weekend, the two domestic tourists, both women in their thirties from Ghaziabad and Mumbai, were bitten by two stray dogs on Benaulim beach. The patrolling lifesavers contacted the nearest lifesaver tower for assistance and drove the dogs away. First aid was administered to the injured women by the beach safety agency’s supervisor Shankar and lifesaver Pankaj, after which they were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
A triple rescue incident took place over the weekend off Candolim beach. A family consisting of a 24-year-old woman, a 50-year-old woman and an 18-year-old man from Navi Mumbai were dragged out to sea by strong waves. They were rescued by supervisor Vinod Salelkar and lifesavers Rohan and Manjunath. Goa’s beaches are off-limits for swimming due to the ongoing monsoons.
Three people were also administered first aid by lifesavers over the weekend on Calangute beach. Two beachgoers, one male and one female from Mumbai, part of a large group standing in the shallow water, were hit by a strong wave and dislocated their knees. A 58-year-old male from Mumbai also fell victim to a strong wave, falling and dislocating his ankle. First aid was administered to the victims, who were then shifted to the hospital via ambulance.
