PANAJI: The much-awaited player auction for Panjim Gymkhana Members League (PGML) Season 5 witnessed high-octane excitement on Sunday at the Raythata Hall, Panjim Gymkhana, Campal. The electrifying event marked the official launch of Goa’s most celebrated members’ cricket league, setting the tone for another action-packed season.
Franchise owners and team representatives turned up in strength, engaging in intense bidding battles to assemble their dream squads. The evening also featured the unveiling of team jerseys, adding colour and enthusiasm to the league’s grand kickoff.
This season will see eight franchises competing for glory six returning powerhouses, Baale Tigers, Manas Mavericks, Dempo Challengers, RC Goa, Priority Titans, and DNM Avengers, joined by two exciting debutants, Sherwin Shaw Falcons and Sun Estate Warriors.
The auction’s biggest headline came from star cricketer Harshad Gadekar, who fetched a record 85 lakh points from Sun Estate Warriors, making him the costliest player in PGML history. Close on his heels, speedster Lakshay Garg was snapped up by Baale Tigers for 82 lakh points, while all-rounders Mukhtar Kadri (79 lakh, DNM Avengers) and Robin D’Souza (79 lakh, Priority Titans) were also among the top picks. Manas Mavericks bolstered their lineup with the addition of Avishkar Mone for 67 lakh points.
Panjim Gymkhana President Manoj Caculo lauded the league’s continued growth and the enthusiasm it inspires each year.
“It is a matter of great pride as we enter the fifth season of PGML. Under the leadership of Suresh Mahadevan, the league has delivered four successful editions, and this fifth one promises to be a true carnival of cricket,” Caculo said.
The champions of PGML Season 5 will receive a ₹3 lakh cash prize, while the runners-up will take home ₹2 lakh. Individual awards worth ₹15,000 each will honour the Best Player, Best Batsman, Best Bowler, and Best Fielder. A ₹5,000 Man of the Match prize will be awarded after every game, along with a special ₹10,000 incentive for any bowler taking four or more wickets in an innings.
Rajesh Khaunte, Secretary of Panjim Gymkhana, expressed gratitude to all teams for their continued support.
“Panjim Gymkhana’s spirit goes beyond competition it’s about camaraderie, growth, and celebrating the love of cricket. Season 5 will undoubtedly be our most exciting edition yet,” Khaunte remarked.
With over 140 registered players, PGML continues to expand its stature as a premier event in Goa’s sporting calendar, blending competition with community spirit.
