PANAJI: Goa witnessed spells of light rain and thunderstorms through Thursday, extending a wet spell that began on October 20 with three consecutive nights of moderate to heavy rainfall. Earlier in the week, the State experienced humid and sunny conditions, but the weather turned cooler as thunderclouds built up, leading to intense showers after dusk.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Goa attributed the current weather activity to a depression over the southeast Arabian Sea and a low-pressure system that formed over north interior Tamil Nadu. This system has since drifted west-northwest and now lies over south interior Karnataka and nearby areas, influencing weather patterns across Goa.
In the past 24 hours, most parts of the State received very light to light rain, while a few places recorded moderate rainfall. The maximum temperature touched 33.0°C and the minimum stood at 25.2°C, with humidity levels reaching 90 per cent — all above normal for this time of year. Similar weather is expected to persist over the next two days, with daytime highs around 32°C and lows near 25°C.
The IMD has issued a yellow alert in force until October 26, forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds ranging from 30 to 40 km/h, occasionally peaking at 50 km/h. Heavy showers are likely in isolated pockets on Friday, followed by light to moderate rain on October 25 and 26.
