PORVORIM: Poriem MLA DR Deviya Rane today said that being residents of Sattari, they have not seen a single Tiger.
“We being residents of Sattari have not seen a single Tiger. The Tiger Census report which claims presence of 5 tigers is not accurate,” she said.
She further said that thousands of people will be affected if the Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary is notified as a Tiger reserve.
“We have to save Tiger and Mhadei, but who will save thousands of people, the notification of Tiger Reserve will affect thousands of people living in this sanctuary,” said Dr Deviya.
She said that there is no doubt that we should save tigers and Mhadei, but “who will save those thousands of people.”
Rane said that the state government will save Mhadei through other methods.
High Court of Bombay at Goa had recently directed the State government to notify the Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary and other areas referred to in National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA)’s communications as a Tiger Reserve under Section 38-V (1) of the Wildlife Protection Act (WLPA) within three months from the date of the order.
