Margao: South Goa’s police and district administration will deploy heightened security measures, intensified patrolling, and strict traffic enforcement as the district prepares for Ganesh Chaturthi, Milad-un-Nabi, and Independence Day celebrations.
The action plan was finalised at a law and order review meeting on Thursday at the Matanhy Saldanha Administrative Complex, chaired by Collector and District Magistrate Egna Cleetus and Superintendent of Police Tikam Singh Verma. The meeting was attended by senior officers from the administration, police, and other stakeholder agencies.
Key measures include round-the-clock patrolling in vulnerable and high-footfall areas, stepped-up tenant verification drives, and strict penalties for drunken driving, rash driving, and illegal parking. Authorities have also ordered enhanced crowd control, traffic regulation, public illumination, and cleanliness at festival venues to ensure smooth conduct of events and communal harmony.
Pending chapter cases under CrPC and BNSS will be fast-tracked, while sensitive matters such as custodial deaths and illegal bullfighting incidents will be closely monitored for swift legal action.
Independence Day arrangements were reviewed in detail, with instructions to maintain a dignified atmosphere and ensure public safety throughout official programmes.
Officials praised the coordinated policing during the recent Saptah festival in Mormugao, which concluded without incident. The public has been urged to cooperate with authorities, remain vigilant, and report suspicious activities during the festive period.
