Panaji: On the occasion of the birth anniversary of freedom fighter Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Vasco MLA Daji Salkar on Wednesday demanded during the Zero Hour in the Goa Assembly that the iconic Tilak Maidan in Vasco be officially renamed as Keshav Bal Gangadhar Tilak Maidan. He also urged the government to install a life-size statue of Tilak at the site, calling it a fitting tribute to the national leader.
Responding to the demand, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant welcomed the proposal and said he would instruct the concerned department to implement the renaming. He also congratulated MLA Salkar for raising the matter.
“Bal Gangadhar Tilak’s contributions to India’s freedom struggle are immense, and it is only appropriate that such public spaces reflect his full identity and legacy,” Salkar said.
Tilak Maidan is among the most prominent public grounds in South Goa and frequently hosts sporting and cultural events.
