PANAJI: Minister for Water Resources Subhash Shirodkar informed that the left bank main canal from Tillari dam runs for 23.218Kms in Maharashtra enters Goa state at Dodamarg is in bad shape and has leakages and is unable to convey the full design capacity discharge of 18.23 Cumecs.

He further said as the canal is unable to carry the required discharge, the villages of Latambarcem, Sal, Mulgao and Valshi are facing with short supply.
“The 19th standing committee meeting headed by Sec WR was held on 7th October 2021 in Mumbai, Followed by officer level meetings between Govt. of Goa and Govt. of Maharashtra, in WRD office Goa which was attended by The MIN WR. wherein issue of the leakages of canal was discussed,” he informed
Minister said that the Government of Goa is working in two fronts 1. With Maharastra state; – Pursing with Tillari Dam authorities of Maharashtra to take up comprehensive rehabilitation and renovation of section of canals, structures etc.
“Repairs and maintenance of canals in the state of Goa. Which are being taken up in stage wise. Two stretches are being repaired and rehabilitated for for LBMC from Ch.0.00 Km to Ch 6.00 Km & from Ch. 7.500 Km to Ch.13.400 Km. for a length of 11.900 kms. At cost of Rs28.17 Crores for RBMC from Ch 6.020 to Ch. 17.400 Km for a length of 11.00 kms at cost of Rs. 18.00 Crores,” he added
On issue of work order, Shirodkar said that the department needs two working seasons to complete the work. The work needs to be implemented in phases , in order not to affect the water supply to drinking water and irrigation.
