VELSAO: Chaos and outrage erupted in Velsao as residents discovered a massive tin wall erected across the main road, obstructing access to the Zuarinagar post office and nearby private properties. The barricade forced people to conduct postal transactions at the gate of the temporary structure, sparking widespread anger among the locals.
Prominent local activist Roquezinho D’Souza reported that the postmaster was seen collecting money and postage from residents at the makeshift gate. Upon inquiry, it was revealed that a private entity had erected the tin wall in the middle of the road, effectively barring public entry.
Adding to the villagers’ frustration were posters affixed to the tin sheets, falsely claiming that the post office had been shifted. D’Souza expressed his shock, stating, “How can anyone block public access to a central government office? This road is part of the ODP plan and also serves private properties. We’ve learned that Zurai Industries has sold this land to a private owner, but this cannot justify blocking public access.”
The situation has escalated with the presence of three security personnel stationed to prevent entry. Villagers have declared they will take matters into their own hands and remove the barricade if stakeholders fail to resolve the issue within two days.
Meanwhile, the post office staff has reported the situation to their headquarters, seeking intervention to restore access to the office. As tensions rise, all eyes are on the authorities to act swiftly and address the villagers’ grievances.
