BICHOLIM: A case of illegal sand extraction and transport has been registered by Bicholim Police after a tipper truck carrying sand worth approximately ₹25,000 was intercepted at Kasarpal Junction in the early hours of Tuesday.
According to police, the complaint was lodged by Shri Laxman H. Ghadi, Assistant Sub-Inspector of Bicholim Police Station, on March 10, 2026 at 11:44 am. The incident reportedly occurred earlier the same day at around 3:50 am at Kasarpal Junction in Bicholim.
Police stated that the accused, identified as Ranjit, 32, son of Mahendra Singh, a driver residing at C/o Vikas Tendulkar, Kudal, Maharashtra, was found transporting sand in an Eicher tipper truck bearing registration number GA-11-T-6656. The sand, valued at around ₹25,000, was allegedly extracted from an unknown source without any valid lease or licence from the competent authority.
Authorities said the accused was transporting the sand in a clandestine manner, thereby committing theft of minor minerals belonging to the state government.
Bicholim Police have registered an offence under Section 303(2) read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 62(2) of the Goa, Daman and Diu Minor Mineral Concession Rules, 1985.
During the course of investigation, the tipper truck bearing registration number GA-11-T-6656 along with the sand mineral worth approximately ₹25,000 was seized under panchanama. A notice under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita has been issued to the accused.
Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Jayprakash Jankar of Bicholim Police Station.
