MOPA: Mopa Airport Police have registered a case and seized tobacco products worth approximately ₹4 lakh after conducting a search operation at Torxem, Pernem, late on Thursday night.
The offence was registered on December 19, 2025, at around 10.10 am on a state complaint filed by Swapnil Kinalkar (30), Police Sub-Inspector attached to Mopa Airport Police Station.
According to police, acting on specific and reliable information, a police team conducted a search and seizure operation on December 18, 2025, prior to 9 pm, near house number 42 of Gokuldas Mote at Sakral, Torxem, Pernem. During the operation, police attached two vehicles — a Maruti Suzuki Super Carry bearing registration number GA-03-V-5310 and a Mahindra Bolero pickup bearing registration number GA-03-W-7448 — which were found parked in front of a storeroom.
The storeroom allegedly belongs to Bhushan alias Aaba Shirsat, son of Shrikrishna Shirsat, a resident of Khalapwada, Angud, Mapusa, Bardez, Goa, and a native of Banda, Sindhudurg district, Maharashtra.
Police said that the vehicles and the storeroom were found containing large quantities of tobacco products believed to be noxious in nature and illegally stored for sale. The seized products are suspected to be dangerous, injurious and unfit for human consumption, and were allegedly stored without taking proper care or precaution, police added.
The total value of the seized tobacco products has been estimated at around ₹4 lakh.
Further investigation is in progress and is being carried out by LPSI Sashanka Parab of Mopa Airport Police Station.
