KHAREWADO: A one-and-a-half-year-old girl tragically drowned at around 6:15 p.m. off the Kharewaddo beach.
The toddler and her family live in a home that is only 50 meters from the beach, according to the police. The toddler unintentionally wandered towards the sea and was carried away by the waves while the mother was taking care of some chores.
When locals saw the toddler submerged in the water, they pulled her out and took her to a private hospital, where it was determined she had passed away.
The body was sent to the South Goa District Hospital in Margao for an autopsy by a team of Vasco police led by PI Kapil Nayak.
According to the Vasco police, the child while playing outside her house suddenly went towards the sea and drowned.
However, some locals noticed her in the waters and retrieved her. She was taken to the hospital where doctors declared her dead.
On getting the information, the police rushed to the spot and conducted panchanama. The body was sent to the Hospicio South Goa District Hospital, Margao, for autopsy.
According to additional sources, a few Navy officials who were present at the scene saw the girl’s body, informed the nearby residents, and eventually succeeded in removing it.
