ANJUNA: In a major charge, suspended Anjuna PI in the investigation report.has named Goa Director General of Police (DGP) Jaspal Singh on whose behest the Assagao demolition was initiated.
In his submission to the Chief Secretary, who conducted an independent inquiry into the incident, the suspended PI also claimed that DGP threatened him to implicate in a false NDPS case if the demolition did not take place.
While the opposition has demanded the sacking of DGP, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant dodged media questions on the same. Suspended PI has accused DGP of conspiring with the prime accuse Pooja Sharma and Khawaja in the demolition of structures
As per the report, PI told the investigating officer “Accordingly I visited the office of DGP Goa wherein he started shouting at me for not allowing Arshad Khawaja to complete the demolition work of the house. He also threatened to initiate a high-level committee against me as I had not allowed Mr Arshad Khawaje to demolish the full house as he was doing it legally.
“He also threatened me saying that, if he is also transferred from Goa whenever he is posted he will bookcase under NDPS Act and he will falsely record the statement of the accused that he is doing Drug trade in connivance with PI Anjuna Police Station and will frame me in the said case.” the report states.
Three police officers, including the Anjuna police station in-charge, Prashant Naik Dessai, have been suspended for alleged dereliction of duty in connection with the Assagao house demolition and kidnapping case. The two other suspended officers are police sub-inspectors Sanket Pokhre and Nitin Naik.
The suspension of the policemen came after an inquiry into the case was conducted by the Chief Secretary. It also came on the heels of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant stating that action would be initiated against police officials, if they are found guilty in the matter.
Meanwhile, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Crime Branch has been constituted, the First Information Report (FIR) strengthened with additional charges, further arrests are made and teams have been sent to places to search for the absconding accused Pooja Sharma and bouncers — a marathon exercise taken less than 24 hours after the case transfer.
Despite the Agarwadekar family’s sudden U-turn into the demolition of their house in Assagao, the Crime Branch took over the probe from Anjuna police and added charges including criminal trespass, assault and rioting.
