Panaji: Toss Academy from Maharashtra claimed top honours at the first-ever PMS Multi-State Masters Table Tennis Team Championship, edging out fellow Maharashtra side Spinmoon 5 in a thrilling 3-2 final held at the Indoor Stadium, Campal, Panaji. In a nail-biting contest that went down to the final match, Toss Academy displayed resilience and unity to secure the coveted championship trophy and a cash prize of ₹50,000. Spinmoon 5, despite a spirited performance, had to settle for the runners-up title and received ₹30,000.
The championship, hosted by the Panaji Morning Stars Sports Club (PMS), marked a new chapter for veteran table tennis players across India, being the first event of its kind to bring together top teams from multiple states. The organisers have already announced plans to scale up the tournament in future editions, given the enthusiastic response and high level of competition witnessed during the event.
In the semi-final clashes, Toss Academy overpowered MP Lions from Madhya Pradesh with a 3-1 win, while Spinmoon 5 overcame Guru Academy—also from Maharashtra—by the same margin. MP Lions and Guru Academy shared third place and were awarded ₹10,000 each along with trophies.
The victorious Toss Academy squad included Deepesh Abhyankar, Krupal Deshpande, Santosh Wakradkar, Ravindra Joshi, Vidur Pendharkar, and Suhas Rane. The Spinmoon 5 team comprised Moonmoon Mukherjee, Rupesh Gharat, Suraj Chandrasekharan, Manish Rawat, Jayant Kulkarni, and Prasad Naik.
The multi-state tournament witnessed robust participation from veteran players representing Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, and Goa. More than just a battle of skills, the event was a celebration of sportsmanship and fellowship among seasoned athletes, who blended competition with camaraderie.
The finals were attended by several dignitaries, including Goa Table Tennis Association President Sudin Verenkar and sports promoter Yogish Dempo. Key office bearers of the PMS Sports Club—Niraj Kannure, Avdhut Kuvelkar, Dinesh Sinari, Chaitanya Tarcar, Deepak Gopani, and Gaurish Agni—were also present and played a pivotal role in the successful execution of the championship.
With Toss Academy’s triumph and the overwhelming support from participants and spectators alike, the PMS Multi-State Masters Table Tennis Championship has laid a strong foundation for future editions, aiming to become a major fixture in the Indian table tennis calendar.
