Panaji: The Goa Tourism Department on Tuesday acted swiftly to address reports of garbage accumulation along a North Goa beach stretch, ensuring immediate clearance and restoration of cleanliness.
The prompt response highlights the Department’s zero-tolerance stance on littering and its commitment to maintaining Goa’s beaches as clean, safe and welcoming spaces for tourists and residents alike. Upon receiving the report, ground teams were mobilised without delay and the affected area was cleaned in coordination with concerned agencies. Instructions were also reiterated to stakeholders to ensure strict compliance with waste management protocols.
Tourism Minister Rohan A Khaunte said clean beaches are integral to Goa’s identity as a premier tourism destination. “Any lapse is addressed immediately. We will continue working closely with all stakeholders to ensure our coastline remains pristine, orderly and environmentally responsible,” he stated.
Director of Tourism Kedar Naik said the department remains vigilant in monitoring beach cleanliness. “Swift action, cooperation from stakeholders and sustained awareness are crucial to maintaining high standards of hygiene and environmental care on our beaches,” he said.
Shack Owners’ Welfare Society of Goa president Cruz D’Cruz welcomed the department’s timely intervention. “Following our complaint, the Department acted with commendable speed to clear the affected areas. Such proactive action restores the natural beauty of our beaches and reinforces confidence among shack operators and local stakeholders,” he said.
The Tourism Department has appealed to shack operators, vendors and visitors to manage waste responsibly and support cleanliness drives, stating that regular monitoring and enforcement will continue as part of Goa’s commitment to sustainable and regenerative tourism.
