PANAJI: The Department of Tourism has taken a firm stand against recent incidents of misconduct towards tourists and has reinforced safety measures across key destinations including Arambol and Vagator.
Goa continues to maintain its standing as one of India’s most sought-after travel destinations, recording a 6.23% rise in tourist arrivals between January and September 2025 compared to the same period last year.
Domestic arrivals increased by 5.36%, while international arrivals saw a significant 29.33% jump.
Taking note of two recent incidents—one involving harassment of foreign women by a group of Indian tourists at Arambol beach, and another in which bouncers of a Vagator establishment allegedly intimidated a visiting family—the Tourism Department reiterated that such behaviour is unacceptable and will invite strict action.
Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte stated that Goa welcomes visitors with warmth and respect but will not tolerate any act that jeopardises their safety or dignity.
“We are committed to ensuring that every visitor feels safe and comfortable here. The government will continue to work closely with the police and tourism stakeholders to promote responsible tourism,” he said.
Tourism Director Kedar Naik has directed the Tourist Police Unit to intensify day-and-night patrolling, enhance vigilance at major tourist sites, and ensure swift response to complaints.
Visitors and residents have been urged to report any grievances or safety concerns to the 24×7 Tourism Helpline at 1364.
The Tourism Department affirmed its commitment to protecting travellers’ safety and upholding Goa’s reputation as a safe, welcoming, and responsible tourism destination.
