PANAJI: Goa’s Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte has reiterated the urgent need for a taxi aggregator platform in the state, stressing that embracing technology is essential to improving both tourism and local transport services.
“There is a need for an aggregator. Taxi owners are the biggest ambassadors — they should support tourism,” said Khaunte, adding, “Those who say we don’t want technology regarding app-based taxis — I do not agree with them, and that’s my personal opinion. The world is adopting technology.”
Highlighting the launch of the ‘Goa Taxi’ app as a step forward, the minister emphasized that the platform is not meant solely for tourists but will also benefit local commuters.
“We need to find solutions,” he stated.
Khaunte’s remarks come amid ongoing resistance from certain taxi associations opposing app-based services in Goa.
The minister’s comments underline the government’s stance on modernizing the state’s transportation sector while maintaining a balance with stakeholders.
