Team Goemkarponn
PANAJI: Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte on Saturday felicitated a team of Drishti Marine lifesavers who were involved in the recent midnight rescue of 27 fishermen after their boat capsized off Mobor beach.
The fishing vessel had been stranded for several hours near the Mobor river mouth before overturning in rough monsoon conditions. Over 25 lifesavers from Drishti Marine, both at sea and onshore, carried out the high-risk operation, administering medical first aid after the rescue.
“The bravery and commendable service of the lifesavers in saving 27 lives is truly heroic. Their dedication stands as an inspiring example of selfless service. I extend my heartfelt congratulations and urge them to continue the excellent work,” Minister Khaunte said at the felicitation held at Paryatan Bhavan.
Drishti Marine CEO Navin Awasthi cautioned that sea-based rescues are complex and should only be handled by trained personnel.
“A wrong move – even though well intentioned – can put both the rescuer and the victim at risk. We urge members of the fishing community and bystanders to work only under the guidance of trained lifesavers present during any rescue,” he said.
Those felicitated included lifesavers Lovu Gaonkar, Samir Gaonkar, Sunil Velip, Sashikant Jadhav, Satish Gaonkar, Santendra Velip, and Kapil Velip.
