Porvorim: Goa Tourism Minister Rohan A. Khaunte, speaking during the Zero Hour of the ongoing Goa Legislative Assembly session on August 4, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening beach infrastructure and ensuring the safety of visitors at key tourist destinations across the state.
Responding to a query raised by Cortalim MLA Antonio Vaz regarding Velsao Beach, the Minister informed the House that significant steps have already been taken to improve safety measures at the site. He stated that a team of 15 trained lifeguards has been deployed at Velsao Beach to provide round-the-clock safety to both locals and tourists. Additionally, high-mast lighting has been installed at the beach, and the system has been handed over to the Electricity Department to ensure smooth and uninterrupted functioning.
Khaunte also ki acknowledged the issues raised concerning the lack of proper facilities for local fishermen, including the need for designated canoe parking and public toilets. He assured that an on-site inspection would be conducted jointly with the local MLA to assess the situation and decide on further interventions.
The Minister’s response highlighted the Tourism Department’s proactive approach to addressing ground-level concerns and working collaboratively with stakeholders to upgrade Goa’s beach infrastructure for the benefit of both visitors and local communities.
