CALANGUTE: A violent altercation at Calangute beach left a tourist from Bengaluru seriously injured, raising fresh concerns over tourist safety at Goa’s popular beach destinations.
The incident occurred at a beach shack when the tourist, identified as Kaushat Pasha, went for a swim and later sat on a shack bed after returning from the sea.
Shack staff reportedly objected to him sitting there, which led to an argument that quickly escalated into a physical clash.
According to reports, around 15 to 20 waiters allegedly joined the confrontation and assaulted the tourist using fists, iron rods and pipes.
Pasha sustained serious head injuries and required stitches, while two others suffered minor injuries in the incident.
The injured tourist was initially rushed to Candolim Health Centre for treatment and was later shifted to Goa Medical College for further medical care.
Calangute Police have registered a case against the shack staff involved and have launched an investigation into the incident.
Authorities are also examining the role of those present at the scene and further action is expected based on the findings.
