CALANGUTE: Goa Police’s Tourist Police Unit (TPU) and Calangute Police Station acted promptly after a video went viral on social media showing a woman being subjected to sexually coloured remarks at Baga Beach.
The complaint was filed by Miss Soumya Khanna, stating that between 2:04 am and 2:40 am on October 24, an unidentified man approached her at Baga Beach, made inappropriate comments about her ethnicity, and asked offensive questions, including “rates per night.” The accused allegedly followed her, causing fear and distress, and insulted her modesty in public view.
Based on the complaint, Calangute Police registered an offence under Sections 75, 78, and 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023.
During the investigation, the Tourist Police Unit identified a suspect working at a shack. One accused, Atendra Singh, 23, originally from Bharatpur, Rajasthan, and presently residing at John Beach Shack, Baga-Calangute, has been taken into custody.
Goa Police reiterated that such incidents will not be tolerated and assured strict action on every complaint.
