Porvorim: Porvorim Police have booked tourists from Maharashtra for illegally displaying a “Police” signboard on their private vehicle in an attempt to evade police checks.
According to Police Inspector Shri Rahul Parab, on 02 January 2026, a Hyundai Verna (MH-12-LP-5689) was noticed moving suspiciously in the Porvorim area with a “Police” signboard displayed on the vehicle.
The patrolling staff, comprising Driver PC Baburao Shirodkar and Head Constable Dharmendra Wadkar, acted promptly and signalled the vehicle to stop.
The vehicle was detained and the driver along with the occupants were verified.
During verification, it was revealed that all the occupants were engaged in private service and had no association with the police department.
The accused admitted that they had placed the “Police” signboard on the vehicle with the intention of evading police checks.
Accordingly, all the accused were arrested under Section 35 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
They were later produced before the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Mapusa, and were subsequently released on furnishing a bond of security.
