PORVORIM: A viral video circulating on social media today showed a woman sitting on the roof of a moving car while a man stood through the sunroof, performing dangerous stunts on the Mapusa–Porvorim highway.
The incident has sparked serious concern over tourist behavior and public safety on Goa’s roads.
Upon reviewing the footage, traffic authorities traced the vehicle — a white Hyundai Creta bearing registration number GA 03 AF 0727. The vehicle’s owner was contacted and summoned to the police station for questioning.
Enquiry revealed that the vehicle had been rented out to three tourists from Uttarakhand: Tushar Dhillon, Miss Chetna Kumar, and Tushar Kumar, who were visiting Goa for a holiday.
Following the investigation, the driver was booked under Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act for dangerous driving, while the vehicle owner was charged under Section 192 for allowing improper use of the vehicle. The car has been impounded and is currently in police custody.
A detailed report has been forwarded to the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Mapusa, for further legal action.
Authorities have reiterated their warning to tourists and vehicle rental agencies to abide by traffic laws and maintain public safety standards at all times.
