VALPOI: The traditional Gauri Puja festival, an integral part of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, was observed with enthusiasm across several villages in Sattari taluka on Sunday. A large number of women actively participated in the rituals, keeping alive a centuries-old tradition.
Goddess Gauri was symbolically brought home in the form of water and worshipped in a copper urn placed before Lord Ganpati. Women also performed bhajans and other traditional programmes as part of the festivities.
In villages such as Koparde, Keri, Morle, and Guleli, Gauri Puja was celebrated with devotion. In many homes, women carried water symbolising the arrival of Gauri Mata, followed by religious rituals, serving of mahaprasad in the afternoon, and immersion of Gauri in the evening.
Local resident Gopiki Gavkar highlighted that the practice of Gauri Puja has been followed for hundreds of years during Ganesh Chaturthi, drawing large participation from women across the community. Another villager, Savitri Naik, described the celebration as a joyful blend of devotion and tradition, noting that women dressed in traditional attire brought Gauri Mata into their homes with reverence.
The festival, celebrated on the fifth or sixth day of Ganesh Chaturthi depending on local custom, continues to strengthen community bonds while preserving rich cultural heritage.
