Panaji: In view of the peak tourist season and the anticipated surge in vehicular movement during New Year celebrations, the Goa Traffic Police have announced a comprehensive traffic circulation plan across major tourist hubs including Calangute-Baga, Vasco, Colva, and Canacona. The measures aim to decongest internal roads, ensure smooth traffic flow, and minimise inconvenience to local residents and visitors during New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
With a significant rise in tourist vehicles entering Calangute, several restrictions have been imposed within the Calangute Village Panchayat jurisdiction. The road stretch from Bharat Junction to Tito’s Circle (Mambos Club) towards exit from Snow Park via Tito’s–Baga will be declared a non-motorised zone from 3 pm to 6 am. Utility vehicles such as water tankers, LPG cylinder vehicles and sewerage tankers will also face restricted entry timings from 6 am to 10 am. These measures will remain in force from December 23, 2025 to January 1, 2026.
One-way traffic movement will be enforced on key internal roads, including routes from St Alex Church to Calangute–Baga junction, Baga–Calangute junction to Government Primary School, Government Primary School to Fat Fish junction, and from Joia de Mar Resort to Piety Chapel in Baga.
Multiple locations have been identified for temporary four-wheeler parking, including Calangute Association Football Ground, GTDC parking near Bandodkar statue, fields near Baga bridge, areas behind Babreshwar Temple, Nazri Resort parking lot, and other open grounds across Calangute and Baga.
Entry and movement of heavy and medium tourist vehicles such as buses, mini-buses and tempos will be prohibited within Calangute from December 21, 2025 to January 31, 2026. These vehicles will be allowed to park only at designated barren fields near Fat Fish restaurant, Porbowado, and open space adjacent to Calangute Police Station.
In the Vasco region, the road from Bogmalo Church junction towards Bogmalo Beach will remain temporarily closed to all vehicles except two-wheelers from 7 pm on December 31, 2025 to 3 am on January 1, 2026. Vehicular traffic will be diverted through internal roads via Vieranagar junction, Indian Coast Guard campus junction and Tanisha Guest House junction.
A one-way system will be implemented for vehicles travelling from Bogmalo Church towards Dabolim via the Naval Museum route during the same period. Entry of heavy and medium vehicles, including buses, towards Bogmalo Beach from Dabolim Circle will be prohibited.
Parking arrangements include car parking at the open ground near Bogmalo Panchayat, while two-wheelers will be parked near Bogmalo Beach. No parking will be permitted on the main road from Dabolim junction to Hotel Bogmalo Beach Resort.
In South Goa, all cars visiting Colva Beach will be parked at the Colva Beach parking lot and the football ground near the Traffic Cell office, while two-wheelers will use designated parking near the beach. Four-wheelers will be restricted at La Ben Resorts junction and diverted via Betalbatim road.
Heavy and medium vehicles will not be allowed to enter Colva Beach from Colva Circle. Parking on Colva Beach, Colva Circle main road and adjoining junctions will be strictly prohibited.
A one-way traffic system will be enforced from Colva four-road junction to Gandaulim via HDFC Bank and Hotel Sagar Kinara on December 31 from 2 pm until 8 am on January 1, 2026.
Vehicles visiting Benaulim Beach will be parked at the tourism parking area, while two-wheelers will be accommodated at the designated beach parking zone.
In Canacona, several open spaces have been identified for temporary parking, including areas near Sai Family Restaurant, Devabag Sports Complex, Palolem Club premises and Rayshet paddy field at Devabag. These arrangements are being coordinated through the Canacona Municipal Council.
The Traffic Police stated that similar arrangements will be implemented across Goa at locations witnessing high footfall during the festive period. Motorists have been urged to drive responsibly, follow traffic rules, wear helmets, avoid drunken driving and mobile phone use while driving, and park only in designated areas. Strict action will be taken against violators.
Tourists and local residents have been requested to cooperate with the temporary traffic circulation plans to ensure smooth vehicular movement and avoid congestion during the festive season. In case of traffic congestion or emergencies, the public has been advised to contact designated traffic officers for assistance.
