PANAJI: The Goa government has come under fire from Congress MLA Carlos Alvares Ferreira over the postponed suspension of the female police constable who was accused of embezzling Rs 17.30 lakh while she was assigned to the Bicholim police station last year.
He questioned the government’s choice to take action only after media reports made the case public during a press conference today at the Congress headquarters. He also wanted to know when the differences were initially noticed.
“The government needs to be honest. He insisted that the Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant, who is also the Home Minister, reveal the chronology of events and present the documents.
“The police are lying when they say they took action right away. It merely draws attention to the system’s corruption. These individuals should be fired rather than simply suspended because they are stealing while wearing uniforms.
Ferreira also expressed alarm about the Income Tax Department’s inaction, posing the question of how the Central government can do nothing to stop someone from hoarding Rs 17 lakh in cash.
Former Advocate General Ferreira stated that he will seek Goa Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai to utilize Article 311(2)(c) of the Constitution, which permits the termination of a government employee under extraordinary circumstances without a formal investigation.
He rejected the idea of leniency as well. Now that she is giving the money back, she is acknowledging her mistakes and is hoping for forgiveness. However, it shouldn’t operate that way. He insisted that she be imprisoned and that reparations and fines be used to help her rehabilitate.
“The seriousness of the investigation is called into question by the failure to file a formal complaint. I think they’ll keep the case quiet.
