Margao: The Traffic Department recorded a total of 18,372 motor vehicle violations across the Margao, Colva and Maina Curtorim police station limits during 2025, collecting fines amounting to more than ₹94 lakh, as per section-wise data released by the authorities.
Of the total cases booked, 14,332 were compounded, leading to the recovery of ₹94,31,504 as penalties. Traffic officials said enforcement drives were intensified throughout the year to curb violations and improve road safety.
Dangerous parking emerged as the most common offence, with 5,025 cases registered. This was followed by no-entry violations, which accounted for 4,219 cases, and no-parking offences with 1,005 cases.
Non-compliance with helmet rules also remained high, with 2,391 cases booked. Out of these, 1,485 cases were compounded, generating fines exceeding ₹15.73 lakh. Over-speeding continued to be a major concern, with 1,967 cases recorded and penalties amounting to ₹15.67 lakh.
Driving without seat belts resulted in 446 cases, while 341 motorists were booked for drunken driving. In addition, 858 cases were registered for unauthorised parking.
The department also took action against several other violations, including lane cutting, use of dazzling lights, improper or missing number plates, and vehicles operating without valid documents or insurance. Cases were further booked for offences such as projecting loads, excessive smoke emission and jumping stop lines at red traffic signals.
Traffic officials stated that strict enforcement will continue to ensure better compliance with traffic rules and to enhance safety on city roads.
