PANAJI: In a bid to enhance transparency and accountability in traffic law enforcement, authorities have announced that fines (Challans) for traffic violations will now only be issued by designated officers equipped with body cameras.
“Effective immediately, only Police Inspectors (PIs) wearing body cameras will be authorized to issue fines during the daytime. At night, both PIs and Police Sub-Inspectors (PSIs) with body cameras will have the authority to issue Challans,” said Sawant
He further said that no other personnel will be permitted to issue fines under this new directive.
Additionally, the new rule extends to tourists who violate traffic laws. If a tourist is found in violation, the fine will be issued in the name of the vehicle’s owner, ensuring that accountability remains with the registered proprietor.
Officials believe this move will not only prevent disputes over traffic fines but also improve adherence to road safety regulations.
The use of body cameras is expected to provide clear evidence in case of any disputes, reinforcing fair enforcement practices.
Authorities have urged motorists to adhere to traffic rules and cooperate with officers to ensure a smoother and safer traffic system.
