BAINA: In a tragic incident at Baina Beach, a 40-year-old man from Karwar was found dead after reportedly drowning in the sea on Wednesday morning . The discovery was made when one Joseph Mendes, a local resident, noticed a body floating near the shore, approximately one and a half meters from the Holy Cross at Baina Beach. Mendes immediately alerted the authorities, and lifeguards stationed at the beach helped retrieve the body.
The deceased was identified as Meghachandra Kumatekar, a resident of Majali in Karwar, Karnataka and working on a fishing boat . According to initial reports, Kumatekar had gone to the beach for a routine nature call and is believed to have drowned shortly afterward.
The Mormugao Police promptly conducted a scene of UD occurence panchanama and an inquest Panchanama . The body was then taken to SGDH, Margao, where Dr. Anup Chandran, a police surgeon, performed a post-mortem examination. Dr. Chandran confirmed that the cause of death was “asphyxia as a result of drowning.” The body has since been released to Mr. Kumatekar’s family for final rites.
Mormugao Police have registered an unnatural death case under sections 194 of the BNSS, with further investigation led by PSI Stanley Gomes under the supervision of PI Dhiraj Devidas and guidance of DySP Gurudas Kadam.
