MANDREM: A tragic drowning incident occurred this evening at Mandrem River, claiming the life of Ramesh Khathayat, a 30-year-old security guard working at Mandrem Beach Resort.
According to local sources, Khathayat, originally from Nepal, had been fishing in the river along with his friend, Nabajyoti Bore. The two were using a small boat when the strong currents caused the boat to capsize, throwing them both into the water.
While Bore managed to find safety by holding onto nearby trees and bushes, Khathayat was unable to find support and was swept away by the current. Locals quickly alerted the Fire Brigade, who were able to recover the body of Khathayat after an intense search.
The deceased’s body was subsequently sent to the Goa Medical College Morgue in Bambolim for preservation and further medical legal procedures.
A case has been registered at Mandrem Police Station under UD No. 32/2025, and investigations are ongoing.
Authorities have urged local fishermen and visitors to exercise caution when venturing into the river, especially during high currents.
