The incident occurred when Bhola Ravi Teja, a 28-year-old tourist from Andhra Pradesh, along with other drunken tourists, demanded food from the beach shack after its kitchen had closed.
The shack workers, adhering to the regulations that require beach shacks to close by 11 PM, refused to serve them. This refusal led to an argument, which quickly escalated into a physical altercation.
According to police reports, during the brawl, one of the shack workers allegedly struck Ravi Teja on the head with a wooden stick, resulting in fatal injuries. Teja died on the spot.
Three shack workers have been arrested in connection with the incident. The arrested individuals include Kamal Sonar, a 23-year-old shack worker, and two other workers. The owner of the shack, who is currently absconding, is also being looked out for by the police.
The incident took place at a beach shack in the Calangute area of North Goa late on Monday night, just ahead of New Year celebrations. The area is known for its vibrant nightlife and is a popular destination for tourists.
The altercation began when the tourists, dissatisfied with the refusal to serve food, engaged in verbal abuse towards a female employee of the shack. This verbal confrontation quickly turned violent, leading to the fatal assault on Ravi Teja. The police are investigating if there were any other angles to the fight, given the severity of the outcome.
The incident highlights the need for stricter enforcement of regulations regarding the operating hours of beach shacks and the management of late-night crowds.
