CANACONA: Goa Legislative Assembly Speaker and MLA Canacona Ramesh Tawadkar, along with Canacona Municipal Chairperson Ramakant Naik Gaonkar, reached New Delhi to address and resolve all developmental issues, including the bottleneck at the highest level in the interest of the entire Canacona constituency.
The Speaker and CMC Chairperson met top railway ministry officials and discussed the resumption of long-distance train halts at Canacona KRC Station, sources informed.
The issue of Long -Distance Trains Halts raging up in Canacona since a few months ago is on teh boil, with Canacona Municipal Council(CMC) submitting a memorandum to the Canacona MLA and GLA Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar on Saturday.
CMC Chairperson Ramakant Naikgaunkar said he would accompany Tawadkar to Delhi to meet up with the railway and other authorities to pursue the demand of the Canacona people.
On Saturday, CMC Chairperson Ramakant Naikgaunkar, along with the councillors, submitted a request resolution of CMC demanding the resumption of Halt of long-distance Trains at Canacona KRC Station, which stands discontinued following the Covid-19 lockdown.
The speaker is learnt to have assured the Canacona councillors of full cooperation in the matter. Sources further informed that accordingly, the Speaker, along with CMC Chairperson, has left for Delhi on Sunday to put forward the demand for Canconcars to the Central Railway Ministry.
Recently Canacona BJP mandal also submitted a letter to the Canacona MLA/GLA Speaker requesting to pursue the demand of resumption of Train Halts, which were suspended following the Covid-19 lockdown.
It may be recalled that various organisations, including Swabhimani Jagruth Canaconkars, Forum for Senior Citizens of Canacona, Vision and Mission- Progressive Canacona, Jana Sena Warriors under the banner of Canacona Railway Stop Bachao Action Committee (CRSBAC) have been agitating demanding resumption of Long-distance railway Halts at Canacona KRC Station, and have lately given a deadline call ultimatum to resume the Services before 10th February or face intensified stir/agitation including Rail-roko, Canacona Bandh, thereafter.
