SANGUEM: A electrical transformer caught fire near Sanguem Court at 6.30am on Saturday.
According to information from the Curchorem fire station office, they got a call early in the morning that a transformer had caught fire.
The Curchorem firefighter rushed to the spot, and they extinguished the fire. The electrical transformer was damaged totally due to fire. Hawaldar Dharmendra Naik (leading firefighter), Girish Naik firefighter, and Sandip Gaonkar driver took up the fire extinguishing task.
When contacted, Sanguem electricity department assistant engineer Sharad Naik said that there was a short circuit due to a faulty switch in the transformer box and causing a loss of around Rs 45,000.
“It is a 200 kV line junction box, and it is not a transformer; the secondary current is very high, and the transformer overheats, and the junction box gets damaged,” he said.
Naik although added that the transformer will get replaced in the afternoon.
