PANAJI: The Transport Department earned a revenue of Rs 8.97 crore from vehicles imported directly from foreign countries into Goa since 2017.
“Vehicles imported directly from foreign countries and revenue earned from those till date since 2017 is Rs. 897.20 lakhs,” said Transport minister Mauvin Godinho
He further said during renewal of registration of private vehicles, all lights such as head-light, brake-light, sidelight and tail light are checked.
“Lights are also checked of commercial vehicles during annual renewal of fitness certificate. So also, the executive staff of this Directorate, routinely check for proper functioning of the above lights,” he added
Speaking on road safety, Godinho said that that up to school level steps have been taken to educate students on Road Safety through School Curriculum.
“Colleges organize talks/ lectures on Road Safety for the students, as well as staff which is imparted by the Executive Staff of this Directorate, as and when invited by the Educational Institutes. Also as a part of 31st National Road Safety Week 2020, various competitions were organized by the colleges, through NSS,” he said
